Your public transport options are:

  • The easiest option is the new ‘ALMSAR’ bus, which takes you directly to Bukit Lawang for Rp 80,000. Along the way, you’ll only need to change buses once in Padang Bulan. The transfer happens at a single point, and someone will always be there to guide you, so you don’t need to worry about finding the right stop.
  • Other options include a minibus (ALS) from Tanah Lapang Merdeka Binjai for Rp 30,000 or from the bus stop in front of Mawar Bakery near Pinang Baris Medan station for Rp 50,000. We don’t recommend traveling from the bus station itself, as there is a risk of encountering scams.
  • From the airport, you can reach the above bus stops either conveniently by Grab or, if you’re feeling adventurous, by taking the ALS minibus from Kualanamu Airport to Binjai city for Rp 50,000, followed by a tuk-tuk for Rp 10,000 from Binjai city to Tanah Lapang Merdeka Binjai.
  • You can take a tuk-tuk from the bus stop in Bukit Lawang to your accommodation for around Rp 10,000, or simply walk, depending on the distance.
